Fairy Tales in the Library DVD Collection

February 26th is National Tell a Fairy Tale day.  Telling a fairy tale seems like too much work, though.  Why not just watch one? There are hundreds of titles in the COM library DVD collection, including a number of fairy tale titles, both older and modern retellings.  Bring your COM ID by and pick up a fairy tale DVD to bring whimsy to your evening. Peace Corps Week

Peace Corps Week is celebrated this year from February 23rd-27th. Check out these books to learn more about the Peace Corps.  Waiting for Snow is the author's memoir about his time with the Peace Corps in Chile from 1961-1963. New AI Features in EBSCO

Most of our library platforms are working on beta versions of AI enhancements to make research easier for students. EBSCO has enabled AI features in most of our EBSCO databases. This consistent format, applied across multiple databases and deep backfiles of licensed content, introduces a new level of uniformity, facilitating rapid review. The aim of AI Insights is to reduce the time users spend searching for relevant full-text articles supporting their research.  How AI Insights are generated AI Insights summaries are generated by prompting a Large Language Model to summarize insights from the specific article the user selected AI Insights for. The AI Insight prompt uses a method called Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) to reduce hallucination...

Black History Month

This Black History Month check out these books written by African American authors. Hitting a Straight Lick with a Crooked Stick: Stories from the Harlem Renaissance by Zora Neale Hurston is a collection of eight of her stories that were found in her archives after her death.  Blacktop Wasteland by S.A. Cosby is about a former getaway driver named Bug who goes in for one more job to get his life back on track, and things don't go as planned.  The Black Panther Party written by David F. Walker and the artist Marcus Kwame Anderson. Did You Know We Check-Out WAY More Than Just Books?

Did you know the library has a "library of things" that we can check-out to persons with a COM ID? The next time it's pouring rain outside, duck into the library and check out an umbrella to get around campus. Did your phone die and you forget your phone charger at home?  While in the library, check-out a phone charger to charge it. Black History Month

This Black History Month check out one of the books to learn more about America's past.  Stamped From the Beginning discusses racism and anti-black ideas throughout American history. The author frames this story using five major figures from U.S. history; Cotton Mather, Thomas Jefferson, William Lloyd Garrison, and W.E.B. Du Bois.  Each of Four Hundred Souls' eighty chapters covers five years of African American history starting in 1619 and ending in 2019.  The 1619 Project looks at how African Americans have been a part of the American landscape since Europeans arrived in Jamestown. This is a collection of essays and historical vignettes describing the impact of slavery on the country and how the changing views about African Americans have impacted the laws and customs.  Get any of these books from COM Library. Want More?
