COM Library Cards for Community Residents

Do you live in the community surrounding College of the Mainland?  If you reside within the taxing district for the college (Texas City, La Marque, Dickinson, San Leon, Bacliff, Hitchcock, Santa Fe, Algoa, Arcadia and Alta Loma), you can purchase a COM library card for $12/year.  Cards are good for one school year (Sept -  Aug) and are pro-rated on a monthly basis.  For staff, students and faculty at COM, your COM ID is your library card.

While most library services can be accessed onsite at the library without a card, you will need a COM library card to check-out books and DVD's. Popular online leisure reading options like hoopla and Libby/OverDrive will not be accessible to community members through COM with a library card, but can be accessed at most local public libraries.  If you are interested in those services, visit your local public library to get a card and start reading online today! .

What You Can Do at COM library:

* Use the computer lab and access pay for printing

* Scan documents and get digital copies for free

* Access the online research databases while in the library

* Read thousands of eBooks online

* Get WiFi Access

* Reserve and use individual and group study rooms

* Check out books (including N.Y. times bestsellers) and DVD's - requires library card

* Work on the community puzzle

* Visit during evening and Saturday hours

Texas Wildflowers

This time of year wildflowers are everywhere. Of course Texas is most famous for its bluebonnets, but there are lots of varieties of wildflowers out there. Most people know that Ladybird Johnson was responsible for the Texas Wildflower Program, but not everyone knows that it continues to this day. TxDOT continues to sow wildflower seeds everywhere, beautifying the highways of Texas. Mowing is only done during this time when necessary for public safety. Great for the environment and great for the scenery! Get more information on the program , or check out the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center . To find them and see for yourself, get sighting info from Wild About Texas  Wildflower: Sightings . See some great Texas wildflower pix at Flickr .
