Never Flinch, the Latest Stephen King

Never Flinch by Stephen King Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2025 by The New York Times Book Review, AV Club, Variety, The Boston Globe, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, Vulture, Men's Health, Book Riot, The New York Post, Goodreads, AARP, Paste, and more! From master storyteller Stephen King comes an extraordinary new novel with intertwining storylines--one about a killer on a diabolical revenge mission, and another about a vigilante targeting a feminist celebrity speaker--featuring the beloved Holly Gibney and a dynamic new cast of characters. When the Buckeye City Police Department receives a disturbing letter from a person threatening to "kill thirteen innocents and one guilty" in "an act of atonement for the needless death of an innocent man," Detective Izzy Jaynes has no idea what to think. Are fourteen citizens about to be slaughtered in an unhinged act of retribution? As the investigation unfolds, Izzy realizes that the letter writer is deadl...

Honoring Those Who Have Fallen in War...

Memorial Day, formerly Decoration Day, is the US holiday (last Monday in May) honoring those who have died in the nation’s wars. It originated during the American Civil War when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle. More than a half dozen places have claimed to be the birthplace of the holiday. In October 1864, for instance, three women in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, are said to have decorated the graves of loved ones who died during the Civil War; they then returned in July 1865 accompanied by many of their fellow citizens for a more general commemoration. A large observance, primarily involving African Americans, took place in May 1865 in Charleston, South Carolina. Columbus, Mississippi, held a formal observance for both Union and Confederate dead in 1866. By congressional proclamation in 1966, Waterloo, New York, was cited as the birthplace, also in 1866, of the observance. In 1868 John A. Logan, the commander in chief of the Grand Army ...

Generative AI and Employment -- Will the tech cause major upheaval in the job market?

Generative AI and Employment, Will the tech cause major upheaval in the job market? Pro Until an autonomous and sentient robot is developed, generative AI will follow the same trajectory of past technological progress that people feared, from automated textile manufacturing machinery to the internet. It will eliminate some jobs but create others. It will change how we work and may increase our productivity. But citizens will have to pressure their representatives to impose carefully considered safeguards — and workers will have to organize to ensure AI does not deteriorate working conditions and instead serves to benefit all.   Con The rise of generative AI is not a future possibility — it’s here, reshaping work across every industry, from real-time coding to customer service. While some still downplay its effects, that’s a dangerous mistake, an attitude likely to cause more harm than good. The risks are not just unemployment...

Tomiko Morimoto shares her inspiring story of survival and triumph in the face of the bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo or the Fifth of May is a national holiday in Mexico commemorating the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, in which Mexican troops under General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated the invading French forces of Napoleon III. Although the battle itself represented only a temporary setback for the French, the Mexicans' victory against overwhelming odds gave them the confidence they needed to persevere until finally triumphing on April 2, 1867. The anniversary of this event is celebrated not only in Mexico but in many American communities with large Mexican-American populations—especially in the southwestern states of Texas, Arizona, and southern California. The events include parades, patriotic speeches, bullfights, barbecues, and beauty contests. Olvera Street in Los Angeles is particularly known for its Cinco de Mayo celebration. ~ from CREDO Cultural Studies: Holidays Around the World Go to the Cinco de Mayo guide or see all our Hispanic American, Latin American & Span...
