Did You Know Doing Puzzles is Good for Your Health?

January 29th is National Puzzle Day!  There are LOTS of benefits to spending time on puzzles.  Research shows that doing puzzles can help improve short-term memory and thought processing.  It's also a great stress reducer.

You don't have to like jigsaw puzzles to be a puzzler.  There are many different puzzles you can try. You can:

* do a math puzzle, like Sudoku, online or in a puzzle book

* play a word puzzle on your phone or online

* read a book of brain teasers

* do an online crossword puzzle

If you DO like jigsaw puzzles, come by the library and spend some time working on our communal puzzle.  We always have one going and it's very popular with students!

It doesn't matter how you do it; pick your favorite puzzle game and spend a few minutes on it today.  Your brain will thank you!

Texas Wildflowers

This time of year wildflowers are everywhere. Of course Texas is most famous for its bluebonnets, but there are lots of varieties of wildflowers out there. Most people know that Ladybird Johnson was responsible for the Texas Wildflower Program, but not everyone knows that it continues to this day. TxDOT continues to sow wildflower seeds everywhere, beautifying the highways of Texas. Mowing is only done during this time when necessary for public safety. Great for the environment and great for the scenery! Get more information on the program , or check out the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center . To find them and see for yourself, get sighting info from Wild About Texas  Wildflower: Sightings . See some great Texas wildflower pix at Flickr .
