The Book Was Better

Check out some of these reads before watching them on the big or small screen.

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire tells the story of Elphaba, the infamous Wicked Witch of the West. The book follows her from childhood into adulthood as she fights to protect magical creatures from Oz's secret police.

It Ends With US by Colleen Hoover is a love story that starts with the main characters Lily and Ryle meeting on a rooftop and falling head-over-heels for each other and their relationship seems to go to be true. Then Lily's first love comes back into her life and their relationship is upended.

The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver is the first in a series following Colter Shaw. Shaw was raised by a survivalist and is now an expert tracker who helps police and private citizens find missing people, for the reward money. In the first installment, he is hired by a father looking for his missing daughter in Silicon Valley who was mixed up with the cutthroat tech world.

Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty follows the Delaney family consisting of two parents and four grown children. Then one day the mother of the family goes missing, and the prime suspect is her husband. The children are quickly divided into two camps, one blaming and one supporting their father. This new tension in the family draws out old family secrets, long buried.

Texas Wildflowers

This time of year wildflowers are everywhere. Of course Texas is most famous for its bluebonnets, but there are lots of varieties of wildflowers out there. Most people know that Ladybird Johnson was responsible for the Texas Wildflower Program, but not everyone knows that it continues to this day. TxDOT continues to sow wildflower seeds everywhere, beautifying the highways of Texas. Mowing is only done during this time when necessary for public safety. Great for the environment and great for the scenery! Get more information on the program , or check out the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center . To find them and see for yourself, get sighting info from Wild About Texas  Wildflower: Sightings . See some great Texas wildflower pix at Flickr .
