A very interesting project from Stanford University's new Literature Lab uses digital versions of books (as in Google Books) to analyze trends in literature and identify how works of literature have evolved.
"It's like the invention of the telescope," Franco Moretti, a Stanford professor of English and comparative literature, says of Google Books. "All of a sudden, an enormous amount of matter becomes visible."
