Death at SeaWorld centers on the battle with the multimillion-dollar marine park industry over the controversial and even lethal ramifications of keeping killer whales in captivity. Following the story of marine biologist and animal advocate at the Humane Society of the US, Naomi Rose, Kirby tells the gripping story of the two-decade fight against PR-savvy SeaWorld, which came to a head with the tragic death of trainer Dawn Brancheau in 2010. Kirby puts that horrific animal-on-human attack in context. Brancheau’s death was the most publicized among several brutal attacks that have occurred at Sea World and other marine mammal theme parks. Death at SeaWorld introduces real people taking part in this debate, from former trainers turned animal rights activists to the men and women that...

COM Library granted $10,000 for eBook Project!

COM Library was successful in securing a grant for eBooks in the amount of $10,000, the maximum possible for this grant! This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (2014) and we are grateful for their generosity! Our library received the highest score of all the libraries applying for the grant. What impressed Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLA) the most about our plan?  -They liked that we are choosing the specific eBooks that best support the mission of the College, rather than buying a preconfigured vendor package as most libraries are; we are using data from our Distance Ed classes which have a greater need for eBooks, as well as our own circulation statistics to determine what the best subjects to cover are with these eBooks.  -They like that we are embedding the new eBooks into our very popular LibGuides to provide easy access to our studen...
