Classic Space Movies Worth Watching

July marks the anniversary of the 1947 crash of a mysterious object near Roswell, New Mexico known as the Roswell incident.  In tribute, we are spotlighting movies in the COM library collection that relate to space and the possibility of life beyond earth. Any fans of space stories, alien movies and/or science fiction should watch these titles; if you have never seen them, these classic movies are worth a watch.  DVD's can be checked out with your COM ID or community library card. James Patterson Now on Display

Author James Patterson is known for writing over 200 bestselling novels for both adult mystery fans, young adult and children's audiences.  He has several popular series including the Alex Cross series, Women's Murder Club, Jane Smith, Maximum Ride and the Witch & Wizard series.  He also writes stand alone novels, many of which are currently featured on display on the first floor pyramid display shelves in the library.  If you've never tried reading James Patterson, give it a try!  He's popular for a reason.  Be sure to bring your COM ID with you when you come by to take a look. Secrets of the Dead - A PBS Series

  Secrets of the Dead is part detective story, part true-life drama that unearths evidence from around the world, challenging prevailing ideas and throwing fresh light on unexplained events. Featuring 12 episodes in the series, the show delves into mysteries surrounding topics such as Stonehenge, The sunken Basilica, Mozart's sister, the civil war's lost massacre and more.  If you love history, you'll be sure to be delighted by this series. Curiouser and Curiouser!

Did you know there is an Alice in Wonderland Day? Alice in Wonderland Day is meant to commemorate the July day that Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (pseudonym Lewis Carroll) first told this story to Alice Liddell and set off the chain of events that led to the classic we know and love today.  If you have never read Alice in Wonderland in it's entirety, check it out from the library today!  If you have read it and loved it, consider checking out The Story of Alice: Lewis Carroll and the Secret History of Wonderland.  This book delves into the friendship between the author and the child, Alice Liddell, for whom he invented the Alice stories and analyzes how this relationship stirred Carroll's imagination and influenced the creation of Wonderland.  It also explains why Alice in Wonderland (1865) and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass (1871), took on an unstoppable cultural momentum in the Victorian era and why, a century and a half later, they continue to enthrall and delight read...

The Truth is Out There

July is the anniversary of the 1947 crash of an object near Roswell, Mexico, that sparked a major UFO conspiracy.
